Since 2008, Safe Foundation Inc has been the steady presence behind thousands of Brooklyn families navigating life's hardest moments.
Safe Foundation Inc began not in a boardroom, but in a living room. In 2008, founder Isaac Dweck gathered a small group of neighbors in Gravesend to talk about what was missing in their community — not programs or pamphlets, but genuine, reliable presence. Someone you could call. Someone who would pick up.
That first conversation became a community resource network. That network became a registered nonprofit. Today, Safe Foundation serves over 3,200 Brooklyn residents annually across twelve neighborhoods, with fifteen active programs and more than two hundred volunteers.
"We started because someone had to. We stayed because this community deserves nothing less than permanence."
— Isaac Dweck, Founder
The name "Safe Foundation" is intentional. A foundation is what everything else is built on — invisible, load-bearing, permanent. We believe every human being deserves a safe foundation: housing stability, access to education, a support network, and the knowledge that they belong somewhere.
Our approach has always been community-led and community-accountable. We hire from the neighborhoods we serve. We speak the languages our neighbors speak. We show up at community boards, at schools, at bodegas — wherever people are, that's where we work.
Every person deserves physical, emotional, and social safety. We design every program with that principle at its center — never as an afterthought.
We believe communities heal themselves when given the tools and trust to do so. Our role is to support, not to direct. Neighbors helping neighbors.
We are not a pop-up. We are not a grant cycle. We are here for the long haul, building structures that will outlast any one program or funding period.
We serve without conditions. No one earns our support by being the right kind of poor or struggling in the right way. All people deserve dignity.
Brooklyn is one of the most diverse places on Earth. We serve everyone — across culture, language, background, and circumstance.
We report to our community. Our finances are transparent, our outcomes are measured, and our doors are always open to the neighbors who trust us.
